Texas -> New Mexico -> Arizona

Hi All! Thought I'd post a little more road trip stuff.
Texas - New Mexico - Arizona (1210 miles and 3 days)

I love flat.

I have to say though, I really wish I wouldn't have forgotten my camera while we were in Santa Fe, NM.....that town is just absolutely beautiful, I would love to go there again some day ... once I win in the lottery and can afford to stay in a nice resort! We do have video camera footage, but right now I have no way of getting still life pics from there or the actuall movie uploaded, but that's another story. We were in Santa Fe on a Saturday, so there was a big art market and lots going on. We walked around town, had some crêpes at a café. The crêpes where great, but the service was well...let's just say, even if you've laid down 45 bucks for a few coffees and some crêpes, already paid mind you and you happen to need to go to the bathroom...they want you out of there baby...very very rude I must say...doesn't go down well with German Gemütlichkeit at all! Avoid the French Pastry Shop & Restaurant in Santa Fe if you like to take time and nurse your coffee!

{ I have to say something here ...I have to do some praisin here (and for someone living in Schwabia praising doesn't come easy)... I actually have to praise our German cafés and restaurants ... and you know why? because no one in a German eatery would ever even THINK about hurrying you outta there just to make that next big buck...it's all about RELAXING and ENJOYING the eating out experience .... restaurant owners all over America .... hear ye .... let them folks sit there! Slow down a bit will ya! Is it really worth it to growel off your customers just to make a bit of extra cash? }

Went into the St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral Basilica where a native Indian group was singing and playing church music in a kind of Indian rythmic drum style...it was wonderful...it made tears come to my eyes (well not to belittle the singers because they were great, but as my family knows, it doesn't take much to make tears come to my eyes!). Whenever we are visiting a town and it has an interesting church or cathedral, we take a look inside. It never hurts to go inside, have a sit down and say a silent prayer giving thanks for just being there. It gives us a feeling of peace during hectic touristy activities and it is always a welcome cooling off on very hot days.

We didn't stay in Santa Fe because with the three of us on a weekend, it would have stretched our budget a wee too much. So we headed for the next closest Holiday Inn Express in Bernallilo, nice enough and full of regular ($) people just like us.

Off to Arizona.

My pictures really don't do our trip justice, we saw so much and I just captured an inkling of the views and scenes that were presented to us.
First stop in Arizona was the Petrified Forest National Park, how amazing to see these trees turned into stone and the different colors of the mountains before us. It was well worth the 70 mile or so longer to drive (being that I didn't have to do any driving ; )

Petrified Forest National Park...that little lizard was posing for us, probably does that for everyone who walks by
Spent the night in Flagstaff, Arizona. What a cool town ... Route 66 feeling and full of motorcycles... my kind of town for sure! Mountains to one side and desert to the other, folks you really got it good, you just have no idea! And if you do have an idea...lucky you, you can count your blessings!

The ONE place in America that I have always wanted to see ever since hearing about it as a little girl is the Grand Canyon, this was to be the trip where I could finally take in those breathtaking views. We only spent the day there, which is way too short. To really experience it I would suggest to stay at one of the lodgings in the park and do a lot of hiking .... maybe even into the Canyon.  If the Grand Canyon was the only thing that we would have seen on this trip it would still have been worth the drive. There are hardly words to describe it.  God builds the most magnificant cathedrals!

Grand Canyon....no words to describe it's beauty

After this we headed for Las Vegas, not only a whole other world but a whole other story. Will tell you about it if you care to hear it. But not now, gotta go....chicken's finished and hubby just walked in the door....
Catch ya later,
Siggie
