Just a wee little post for those who might still look at my blog... I'm still here, just haven't found the time to post anything. It's that time of year again where things just seem to go topsy-turvy. I've been working full days, so I took a little break from posting here.
October is come and almost gone ... here is what kept me sane this month:
October is one of my favorite months to head for work and that only because on the way I get the grandest views. There are vinyards and apple orchards along the way and as I head for work in the morning I watch the wine growers getting ready for harvesting, always wishing I could play hookey and help them so I can take part in what seems to be the best part of wine harvest. The midday table is set and everyone eats right there in the orchards. Can't think of a better way to fuel up with energy!
My hubby's cousin has been doing some research into the family history and has sent us a family tree which is traced back to 1780, his family stems from Strasbourg, France in Alsace. We knew this unofficialy, but now we have it in writing. I knew there was a reason why we feel so at home there whenever we visit the area. He was also so sweet and sent 2 cookbooks, one from Alsace and one from Austria, where the family spent time during the war.
So today in honor of our ancestors and in honor of All Saints Day we are planning on making "Zwiebelkuchen" and "Gugelhupf" out of the book. Zwiebelkuchen is onion cake and it's a tradition here too, something that is made here in the Autumn and served with new wine.
Gugelupf is like coffee cake (for those who don't like onions in the family...hint hint Josh).
Will put up recipes soon...
Have a great Sunday all!
